The B40 thrives on subtle details that transform its cubic form into elegance. Here, geometry follows the body. The backrest, for instance, bends slightly backward at the height of the lumbar spine and flows into a curve that makes the chair easy to carry. Structurally perhaps unnecessary, yet highly aesthetic, is the double bracing at the front, which reinforces the chair and creates a rhythm in the space—as if Breuer had composed crystalline music rather than designed a utilitarian chair.
